Vacation

Well we're back!!
We went to Alberta for our Spring Break.
And I use the word SPRING loosely!
You've all seen the kind of weather that we've been having here on the ranch.
Well Alberta is still a winter wonderland... it was depressing!
The kids liked it for a whole day, then even they had had enough. The amount of snow is crazy.
We lived there for years and never had I seen so much snow there.
( Darby and Bullseye... they we're this way most of the drive over )
Grandma's backyard.
This is the kind of stuff we use to do as kids in Newfoundland.
Never thought I'd see the day my kids would do it.
We did enjoy visiting with family and friends, but it would have been nicer if we didn't have to bear the snow that went along with it. We have diffidently been spoiled by the nice weather here.
This is what we drove back in! It didn't stop till we hit Jasper.
The only place the sun was shining in Alberta the day we left.
All in all it was a good trip, I just really hate the cold and snow.

Daily Life on the Ranch

Hey all!
Not a whole lot has been happening lately.
The weather has been great so the yard work continues on.
And plans to see family and friends for spring break are still on going.
Yipee!!
But one interesting thing that is happening on the ranch is the amount of birds that have come back from their winter holidays. More specifically the geese.
It's crazy!!
I'm sure that a great deal of Canada's goose population is hanging out at this ranch!
And boy are they chatty!!
These are just a couple of the geese that were in my backyard this morning.
The dog was NOT impressed!
I tried to catch them at their favorite hang outs this morning, but was told I was to early, and that they'll be closer this afternoon. So hopefully I'll have some better pic's this afternoon to better show you that I'm not over exaggerating in my claim that we are bombarded by Canadian Geese!

Little Gardens

Spring has sprung!!
At least it sure felt like it today.
I was sitting at the table doing a bit of sewing and decided it was to nice out to be inside.
So out the door I wandered.
Just look at what was out there to greet me...
So I ventured a little further in the yard to see what else was out there.
 Hmmmmm...
I was so tickled to see these tulips?lily's? sprouting up that I decided that I should clear away all the dead from last year ( I was slack last fall! ), to help make way for this year's flowers.
Well... I ended up with more work than I bargained for!
( Zeus helping )
But the end result was worth it!
Needless to say I still have my work cut out for me.
But just to see this bit of gardening started made me feel wonderful.
This weekend is supposed to be very nice and now I'm
looking forward to continuing on with the yard work.
There is a lot of it too!
This is going to be our veggie garden, very exciting!
It might not look like much right now, but we have high hopes for it.
We plan to grow the usual suspects, potatoes, turnip (rutabaga), maybe corn
and such other things. But this year we will be growing Purple Carrots!!
What are you planting this year??
Let me know :)

Yummy Treats

I've been baking again!!!
This is something that I remember mom making a lot.

Tea Buns!!
Here's what you need...
3/4 cup margarine         1 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar               pinch salt
2 eggs                     1/2 tsp vanilla
3 cups flour            Raisins (optional )
5 tsp baking powder
Cream margarine, sugar and eggs using your handy dandy mixer.
Stir in milk and vanilla. ( this will make it look curdled, don't worry )
Add other ingredients, Extra flour may be needed.
Kneed until right consistency
Grease a 9X13inch square pan.
I use whats closest to me!!
Using a glass form your buns, or a cookie cutter.
Bake at 400f for 12 to 15 minutes.
Without Raisins
Cause Dale and Darby don't like raisins..
With raisins... yummy.
Awesome with a cup of tea.
Unfortunately they won't last long and I'll have gained a few more pounds :(
Oh well... enjoy!!

Daily Life on the Ranch

Wow March already!!
It's just crazy how fast the past couple of months just flew by.
As usual I'm keeping myself busy, and I thought that it would be nice to share how I've started off the new month. Nothing exciting going on. Just letting my ham boil over!! Ack!!
Okay...
So there a 3 stallions hanging out in one of the fields behind our house. They bring much entertainment to my other wise dull world. Two of them are all ways "horsing" around.
This is what I see when the wind picks up.

There are two sets of fences between them and me!
But they do make me smile.
I made these cinnamon rolls yesterday.
Very, very yummy!!
I've also started a new quilt top.
I have had this buggy material for forever!!
And after doing the last 9 patch I decided that it was perfect for another one.
This one might just have to be bigger than the last... maybe a lap blanket???
We'll see. I'll keep you posted.
